This is a choreographic work exploring beyond the similarities and differences in one’s self, the group and the commune. We extend beyond the foundation and root of who we are, into a domain which is the unknown and the unpredictable. The body and soul, which is expanding further than our breath, our skin, and our fingertips into a space or place that connects us with one another and the realm of awareness and sensation. The singularity of souls collected in one dimension is reflected by who we are, yet distributed into a vast sphere; into a field of possibility. Within which world do we exist? Onto which territory have we stumbled? Over which boarder have we crossed? Onto which field have we landed? Cast your gaze, discover, and allow each individual dancer to guide you on a path to finding your story within a story within a multitude of stories.
I grew up in a house built from cloth
played in the ruins of cottage industry
old stones like teazle teeth
chewing at my feet
fragments of industry
their lime-wash white
faded to a smoker's gold.
I grew up in a valley
stretched over stone like cloth
rolled footballs and roller-skates
over sheep-felted grass
built locks
in the stream
under the old trade road.
I grew up in a landscape
where hedges and dry stone walls
ran through the fields like seams
where the past
was a runic language
stitched, dyed and woven
into oracular hills.
Time settles like ordered cloth
in these valleys
catches itself red handed
as it is folded back.I grew up watching the past
pulling the weight of the future
along the canal's linear thread.

"Chasing Horizons" is a world premiere choreographed for the 5th and 6th years of Mosa Ballet School, who are finding their way in the world of professional dance and chasing their own horizons. The piece reflects the dreams and ambitions of these young dancers, who find and express their own artistic voice through dance while also developing their fighting spirit and technical skills through hard training.
"Chasing Horizons" is an expression of the beauty and power of dance and the endless possibilities that the future holds. The title of this piece, "Chasing Horizons," can mean something different for everyone: for the dancers, it can mean pursuing their dream of dancing and achieving their goals in life. It can also refer to the broader meaning of exploring the world and pursuing new opportunities.
The piece is also a tribute to the founders of Mosa Ballet School, Benjamine De Cloedt and Damien Comeliau, who with their vision and dedication established this school and have literally been chasing horizons, along with the school's management, teachers, staff, and students. It is my way of showing my appreciation for their efforts and vision. I incorporate their ideas and perspectives into my concept, as they are intimately connected to my theme of chasing horizons and the opportunities they are creating for young dancers. I hope this performance will inspire the dancers to continue chasing their dreams and exploring their horizon even further.
