On Tuesday 4 July, Quand on danse went to Camp Tournesol, an annual initiative of the Fondation contre le cancer. Organised by volunteers since 1989, the camp gives children affected by cancer the chance to enjoy a week away from the routine of treatment. This year, the camp was held at Val d'Arimont, in Malmedy (Province of Liège), in the heart of nature.
Cassandre and Laura offered singing and dancing workshops for the fifty or so children and teenagers who attended. The age and needs of each participant were taken into account by the teachers, the primary objective being to enable them to forget their daily lives and ... to forget themselves, in complete freedom and without constraint. Looking at the smiles on so many faces (including those of the volunteers), the challenge has been met!
Dancing and singing can have a positive impact on patients' quality of life and emotional health, which are often severely tested. The young people present were able to give free rein to their imagination and their movements, with no predefined pattern to follow.
We would like to thank the organisers of Camp Tournesol and the Fondation contre le Cancer for their confidence in us and for this wonderful opportunity, which is a source of optimism and hope!
